The Center for Enriching Relationship (www.enrichingrelationships.org) is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) tax-exempt status ministry committed to enriching local
church relationships through practical application of
biblical truths and respected research. This center is
the official site for the San Diego Healthy Marriage
Coalition and was first incorporated in Kansas (2003) by
Donald W. Welch, Ph.D. Previously, Dr. Welch had served
sixteen years (fourteen full-time) as Professor of
Christian Education and Family Studies at MidAmerica
Nazarene University, in Olathe, Kansas where he received
the Gamma Epsilon Donald S. Metz award for Distinctive
Academic Contributions (voted Teacher of the Year
by faculty and student body) and was
also included in several editions of Who’s Who Among
America’s Teachers. In 2005, Dr. Welch left his
full-time teaching post to move his family and Enriching
Relationships, Inc. to California where he currently
serves as Founder, President and Chief Executive Officer
of the
Center for Enriching Relationships™.
Dr. Welch brings a unique
voice to discussions of relationship and the Bible. He
has been counseling couples, families, and individuals
in various settings for over twenty years. Along with
being a published author, he is a versatile and
accomplished communicator who speaks about relational
issues at conferences, churches, retreats, and seminars
throughout the United States.
As a Kansas Licensed Clinical Marriage and Family
Therapist, Dr. Welch has counseled hundreds of patients
in his private counseling practice. Currently, he is owner and director of Family Consultation Services, Inc. where he is in private practice as a California Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist
www.fcssandiego.com. His
clinical experience and history includes having worked
as a family therapist staff member at Charter Behavioral
Health System of Kansas City, a psychiatric hospital
once located in Overland Park, Kansas.
A veteran university professor, Dr. Welch is currently an
Adjunct Clinical Psychology Professor at Azusa Pacific
University's graduate program and an Adjunct Psychology Professor
at Point Loma Nazarene University. He has also accepted
invitations to lecture and serve as Adjunct Professor at
Friends University and Point Loma Nazarene University’s
School of Theology and Christian Ministry (his alma mater).
Dr. Welch additionally headed up the MidAmerica Nazarene
University’s Department of Christian Education, and
created the popular Youth and Family Ministry bachelor’s degree
program where young men and women were being prepared to
assist families with this century’s impending
challenges. For five years, he was MNU’s chairman of the
Division of Management and Human Relations where Dr.
Welch led in the growth of a degree program focused on
developing relationships in leadership and management.
He is included in Presidential Who's Who, International Who’s Who of
Professionals, National Registers in Executives and
Professionals, Cambridge Who’s Who, Biltmore Who’s Who,
and several publications of Outstanding Young Men of
America.
As an ordained minister in the Church of the Nazarene,
Rev. Welch has served as senior, associate and
interim/preaching pastor in California, Kansas, and
Missouri. Currently he serves as the Counseling and
Marriage Savers Pastor at Skyline Church in San Diego
California. In addition to
offering counseling services at Skyline, he oversees the
Marriage Savers Ministry a multifaceted team of 50
volunteers who help couples develop stronger marriages.
At this local church, Dr. Welch moderates a monthly
panel of trained and licensed marriage and family
therapists, clinical psychologists and medical
physicians called “My Therapist ‘Sez’…” Dr. Welch and
his wife have also led a number of benevolent teams
around the world distributing food and constructing
buildings.
Dr. Welch’s educational credentials are as follows: The
B.A. and M.A. from Point Loma College in San Diego,
California; a M.Div. from Nazarene Theological Seminary
in Kansas City, Missouri; the M.S. in Family Therapy
from Friends University in Wichita, Kansas; and, the
Ph.D. in Education from the University of Kansas in
Lawrence, Kansas. He is a Fellow in Psychotherapy in the
American Psychotherapy Association, a Clinical Member
in the American Association for Marriage and Family
Therapy, an Approved Supervisor in the American
Association for Marriage and Family Therapy (Washington,
D.C.), a Certified Human Behavior Consultant, a member
of the Kansas Association for Marriage and Family
Therapy, and a member of the California Association for
Marriage and Family Therapy.
Dr. Welch is happily married and he and his wife have
two young children.
